Is there school before Hogwarts?

The fiance and I stumbled across a mystery last night as were were watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The mystery had nothing to do with this specific movie but was based on the entire HP book series. While watching the movie Clayton stated "that's so cool, they only have to go to 7 years of school and then they are done forever." This got us thinking...do wizards and witches really not start school until they are 12? If this is the case how do they learn how to speak, write, count, etc. (this question does not just apply to the students who go to Hogwarts but to all the wizarding schools) Is there a school before Hogwarts? Do they have a school that doesn't teach magic but in fact teaches basic curriculum? The solution we came up with is that there is some sort of home schooling system in place where families teach their youngens the basics before they send them off to learn things like potions and defense against the dark arts. Anyway what do you guys think?
